Little League Indiana District One and State Park Little League will be hosting the inaugural Ted Callaway Major Softball Tournament Championship Game, June 3, 8:00 PM, State Park Little League Fields in Porter.
The Tournament is named after Ted Callaway, former Little League volunteer with State Park and District One. Callaway served in multiple roles at State Park over the years; Manager, Coach, Umpire, Board Member. Callaway for many years also served District One as a District Umpire, working tirelessly during Little League District and State Tournaments. Ted passed away unexpectedly 2016, a true loss to his family and community..
The Tournament teams involved are from the Major Softball Division (ages 9-12) chartered in District One Little League programs. The field of eight teams begin the opening rounds of the tournament hosted by Demotte Little League June 1, and finish at State Park for the Championship.
Little League District One is comprised of 22 Little League Programs in Northwest Indiana, servicing communities in 5 counties, Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Jasper and Newton. Current District One Leagues include Demotte, Dyer, East Chicago, Gary Metro, Hobart, Hessville, Highland, Merrillville, Munster, lake Station, Lakes of Four Seasons, Hebron, Roselawn, Wheatfield, Portage, State Park, NWI Girls Softball, Miller, South Haven, Whiting, Wheeler, Longfellow.
Brief opening ceremonies will include Ted’s daughter Nicole throwing out the first pitch. Former State Park players, volunteers, Board members, family, friends and community members are encouraged to attend.
